Kaizer Chiefs Crash Out of MTN8 Cup
Kaizer Chiefs are out of the MTN8 Cup following a goalless draw to AmaZulu FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday, 23 October.
Despite having a greater ball possession percentage (54%), Amakhosi were prevented by AmaZulu from scoring. After replacing Caleb-Bonfils Bimenyimana in the 65th minute, midfielder Khama Billiat nearly broke the deadlock, but his shot was intercepted by Usuthu shot-stopper Veli Mothwa.
Ending the match on a goalless draw, AmaZulu have advanced to the MTN8 final and will face off against Orlando Pirates next Saturday, 5 November.
Coach Arthur Zwane lamented Chiefs’ loss in a post-match interview: “They were just playing to buy time; at the same time, they were dangerous because people were slowing the game down and increasing the tempo all of a sudden. We just needed a goal against the run of play but unfortunately we couldn’t get one.
“I can falter the boys’ performances, they tried their level best and it was not easy, it was not meant to be.”
